šæš Hey friendācan we talk about grapevines for a sec?
Theyāre soĀ dreamy in the garden, right? All those lush green leaves, those beautiful trailing vines, and thenābamāthose juicy clusters of grapes that make everything feel like a vineyard. But if youāve got a dog? You reallyĀ need to read this.
ā”ļø Grapes (and raisins) are actually super toxic to dogs.Even a tinyĀ amount can cause sudden kidney failureāand sometimes itās fatal. šWhatās scary is, we still donāt know exactly whyĀ theyāre toxic or why some dogs react worse than others.
ā ļø One grape can be dangerous. Five could be deadly. If your dog is the type to sniff, nibble, or explore everything in the yard... thatās a risk thatās just not worth taking.
š āSo should I pull my grapevine out?ā
Thatās the big question, right? And honestly, it depends:
ā If your dog is always supervised, never off-leash, or the vineās way out of reachāmaybe youāre okay keeping it (just stay vigilant).
š« But if your pup loves to wander, snack, or is basically a four-legged vacuum cleaner... removing it or fencing it off might be the best call.
Or try swapping it for something dog-safe but still beautiful, like:š¼ Honeysuckle (make sure itās a non-toxic variety)šæ Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata is safe)š¹ Climbing roses (classic and pet-friendly)
š Bottom line? Our gardens should be beautiful andĀ safe. And I totally get itāgrapevines are gorgeous. But if your dog is part of the family (and letās be honest, they are š¾), itās worth thinking about the risk.
Letās grow spaces that every member of the family can enjoyāwhether they walk on two legs or four. šš¶
š Tag your fellow dog parentsāespecially the plant lovers!šø And if youāve got a garden pup, show them off! Drop your pics and #PetSafeGarden tips below!
